In October 2007, Lucky Me!, the leading brand of noodles in the Philippines launched its advocacy which entitled: "KAINANG PAMILYA MAHALAGA" (KPM). It aims to remind the parents of their important role at the dinning table and encourage them to frequently eat dinner with their children to strengthen their communication.
As a Filipino, one of our good traits is our strong family ties. Family meal is an essential human rituals. This advocacy is a perfect way to connect with the whole family most especially during dinner, wherein the parents and their children can talk about different matters-- like how's their schooling and their work, how their days went off--things like that. It's also the best time to share problems and discuss critical matters that their children needs to know.
Open communication among the family members is associated with children's better achievement, fewer behavioral problems, lower risk of alcohol and drug abuse, engagement to pre-marital sex and suicide risk. Parents can guide their children and advice them very well.
In 2008, Lucky Me! launched the first National FaMEALy Day and it became a nationwide call to celebrate family dinning every 4th Monday of September. Last September 30, 2009, Presidential Proclamation 1895 was issued
declaring the commemoration of the Filipino Family Day every 4th
Monday of September. Coincidentally, National FaMEALy Day coincides with
the first day of DSWD's National Family Week.
